Product Description
This solid pine gift box pairs a 3mm clear acrylic sliding lid with a clean wooden body — the contents stay visible while the box remains securely closed. The acrylic panel runs in a routed groove along the inner edge, sliding open smoothly with a finger notch at one end. No metal hinges, clasps, or screws — nothing to corrode, loosen, or misalign over time.
Wall thickness runs approximately 8mm for the standard size and scales with custom dimensions. The pine surface is sanded smooth with eased edges and accepts laser engraving, UV printing, screen printing, or foil stamping. Other wood species — paulownia, birch plywood, walnut, oak — are available depending on your target price point, grain preference, and finishing requirements.

Pine Wood Construction
The box body is machined from solid pine, selected for its clean machining properties, even finish absorption, and cost efficiency at production volumes. Pine's natural grain pattern varies from piece to piece — this is inherent to solid wood and not a defect. For projects requiring more uniform appearance, birch plywood or paulownia are alternatives with less grain variation.
Each box goes through a three-step sanding process: rough sanding at 120 grit to remove machining marks, intermediate at 180 grit to level the surface, and finishing at 240 grit before stain or sealant application. Edges are eased with a light radius pass to prevent sharp corners and reduce the risk of splintering during handling and shipping.
How the Sliding Lid Works
The acrylic lid sits in a routed groove cut into the inner face of the box body. This groove runs along both side walls and the front edge, guiding the lid during opening and closing. When fully closed, the back edge of the acrylic seats into the rear of the groove with a friction fit that keeps the lid in place even if the box is inverted.
A finger notch is machined into one end of the acrylic panel — no pull tab or additional hardware needed. The groove depth and width are calibrated to the acrylic thickness, so the lid moves freely without rattling or binding. For orders above 1,000 units, a subtle detent can be added at the closed position for a more secure feel.
Acrylic Lid Specifications
We use virgin acrylic sheet, not recycled — this matters for clarity, UV resistance, and long-term appearance. Recycled acrylic tends to yellow faster and can have slight cloudiness or micro-bubbles that virgin material does not. Standard thickness is 3mm, which provides enough rigidity for the lid to hold its shape during repeated use while staying light enough for smooth sliding.
For applications with heavy handling, the acrylic can be upgraded to 4mm thickness or switched to polycarbonate, which has higher impact resistance. Frosted acrylic is available for a softer look, and tinted options in smoke, amber, or blue can be sourced for projects that want colored transparency.
Logo and Branding Methods
The pine body takes laser engraving well — the beam darkens the wood fibers to a warm brown that contrasts against natural or stained surfaces. UV printing supports full-color artwork, gradients, and fine detail down to approximately 0.5mm line width. Screen printing is the most cost-effective option for single-color logos at higher quantities, and foil stamping adds a metallic finish for premium applications.
The acrylic lid can also be engraved for a frosted logo effect, though most clients keep the lid clear and place branding on the wood surface where contrast and readability are stronger. If you need branding on both the box and lid, we can advise on which combination of methods produces the best result for your design.
Internal Dividers and Organization
Custom internal dividers turn a single open cavity into organized compartments sized to your products. Three material options are available: solid wood dividers in matching or contrasting species for a unified look, CNC-cut EVA foam inserts with cavities shaped to each item for maximum protection, and cardboard dividers for cost-sensitive projects where the internal structure is not customer-facing.
Send us the dimensions of what goes inside — length, width, height of each item — and we build the interior layout around those numbers. For gift sets with multiple item types, a layout drawing is provided for approval before production begins.
Surface Finish Options
Natural finish keeps the pine grain fully visible with a light sanding sealer for protection. Stained finishes are available in any color — water-based stains penetrate evenly into pine and produce consistent results across a batch. Painted finishes use water-based paint with a matte or satin sheen. Torched finish chars the surface layer, creating a dark textured appearance that also hardens and preserves the wood.
Varnish and wax finishes add a deeper protective layer and are recommended for boxes that will be handled frequently. All finishes are applied after machining and sanding, with drying time built into the production schedule.
Quality Control
Every box goes through a final inspection before packing. Key checkpoints include: lid fit and slide smoothness tested on every unit, surface finish consistency under standardized lighting, acrylic clarity and absence of scratches visible at arm's length, and edge and corner quality. Defective units are pulled and reworked or replaced before the batch ships.
For orders above 500 units, we implement AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) sampling per ISO 2859-1. You specify the acceptable defect level, and we inspect to that standard with a detailed report included in the shipment documentation.
Packaging and Bulk Shipping
Individual boxes are packed in protective sleeves or tissue to prevent surface-to-surface contact during transit. Bulk orders ship in export-grade corrugated cartons with internal dividers between layers. Palletization, stretch wrapping, and container loading follow ISPM-15 standards for wood packaging in international trade.
Standard production lead time is 25–35 days after sample approval. Rush orders can be discussed based on current production schedule. Samples ship by air express — DHL, FedEx, or UPS — and typically arrive within 5–7 business days after completion.
